Welcome to RUADT

Rural Area Development Trust is a voluntary social service organization exclusively working on the Rehabilitation of the Handicapped, which started in 1991 at a rented building at B.Dharamathupatty, Theni District, Tamil Nadu. Initially, the program was started with a mission to identify the disabled and create greater awareness about disabilities in general, particularly in 10 remote villages.In 1996, RUADT started its first program for physically handicapped children, which started with just 17 children.Thanks to the generous donation of 67 cents of land by founder and Secretary Mr.S. Murugan, the organization was able to construct a building worth Rs.7.75 lakhs in its first phase, with support from Bro. James E.Kimpton.Running expenses were met by the Developing Countries Foundation (DCF) Denmark and Dr. S. Desai M.S., who raised some sponsors in Germany. In 1997,RUADT took on the Community-BasedRehabilitation (CBR) Programme for persons with disabilities in rural areas, which benefited 217 PWDs in various categories until 2001.The program was funded by German Doctors Committee,Germany.

Mission : Improve education of differently-abled children and adults. Develop community-based rehabilitation programs. Enhance the capacity of existing remedial services. Strengthen the differently-abled people’s organizations in rural areas. Develop different people's socioeconomic status through self-employment. Ensure that the community is aware of the National policy for persons with disabilities and that they know their benefits and rights. To provide these disadvantaged groups with the necessities of life and eradicate hunger and poverty.
