About
RUADT
What started as a modest initiative to identify persons with disabilities and raise awareness across 10 remote villages has grown into a district-wide movement of inclusive support, rehabilitation, and dignity.
Over the past 34 years, RUADT has expanded its scope and reach, consistently working with disadvantaged communities below the poverty line. The organisation remains committed to breaking barriers, restoring confidence, and enabling people with disabilities to lead independent, fulfilling lives.
From its humble beginnings, RUADT has steadily built a strong foundation of compassion-led service. Each year, the organisation has extended its programmes to address the evolving needs of underprivileged communities—especially those with physical and intellectual disabilities. Today, RUADT has positively impacted the lives of more than 10,000+ beneficiaries, and continues to expand its reach with dedication and purpose.
Vision
Create an inclusive society where children and adults with disabilities receive early intervention, quality education, and equal opportunities to thrive. We aim to make rehabilitation and support services accessible especially in remote rural communities while promoting awareness and breaking the stigma around disability. Through accessible environments and uplifting families, we strive to ensure togetherness, independence, and opportunity for every individual.
Mission
Our mission is to improve the education, rehabilitation, and overall wellbeing of people with disabilities by strengthening community-based programmes and local support systems. We work to uplift families through employment opportunities, self-help initiatives, and improved access to rights and services. By collaborating with local organisations and communities, we aim to build a future where every person with various disabilities can grow with confidence and pride.
Director’s
Message
At Rural Area Development Trust (RUADT), our journey over the past 34 years has been guided by a simple yet powerful belief every person, regardless of ability, deserves dignity, support, and the opportunity to thrive. What began as a small initiative has now grown into a network of five special schools, two Village Rehabilitation Therapy Centres(VRTC), and several community-based programmes that continue to reach children and families across the Theni District.
Our work is rooted in inclusion, respect, and the firm commitment to ensure that children with disabilities receive the care, education, and support they deserve. This progress has only been possible because of the trust and encouragement of our community, partners, and dedicated team.
I have had the privilege of leading this mission since the age of 21. The recognitions I have received—including the Tamil Nadu State Level Best Social Worker Award presented by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam—belong not just to me, but to everyone who has walked with us on this journey. Each achievement is a reminder of what we can accomplish when compassion meets collective effort.
As we look ahead, RUADT remains committed to expanding our services, strengthening community-based rehabilitation, and building a society where inclusion is not an aspiration but a way of life. We take pride as we serve these gifted children with advanced academic abilities and neurological impairments. Together, we can continue to create opportunities, transform lives, and build a future where every child is valued and empowered.

Our
Campus
RUADT operates two of its schools – Balamurugan Special School and Pushparani Children’s Village -in its own dedicated campuses, while the remaining three schools function in well-equipped, recognised rented buildings.
A new, fully accessible campus for Sentamil Special School is currently under construction and is expected to open by 2026 end.
Designed as safe, inclusive, and child-friendly environments, our campuses provide every learner with the support they need to grow and thrive.
Each campus includes accessible classrooms, early intervention and kindergarten rooms, physiotherapy and occupational therapy units, sensory integration spaces, audiovisual rooms, play areas, and vocational training facilities.
Additionally we also provide transport facilities to our schools and back ensuring accessibility and safety of the children. With a small teacher-student ratio, we ensure personalised attention based on each child’s unique needs.
Situated in a peaceful rural landscape, our campuses offer a calm and nurturing atmosphere—giving children the specialised education, care, and rehabilitation they deserve.
